Choose your date
Every day of your clean time belongs to you. Choose the start of your current streak to see complete days, calendar years and months, and live hours and minutes. Your date stays in your browser.
Clean time is a way to describe the time since a chosen substance-free starting point. Some people prefer this language to sober time. Others simply call it their streak or their anniversary. You can use the words that feel meaningful to you without changing the arithmetic.
This free clean time counter does not ask which substances you used or why you started. It does not measure treatment progress, and it cannot tell you what your experience should feel like. It offers a clear view of elapsed time from the date you choose.
Pick the day you recognize as the beginning of your current streak. You can add a time if you know it. Without a time, the calculation begins at midnight in your device’s time zone. The counter waits for you to choose your own date. The large number is the total of complete 24-hour periods.
A count of zero on a starting day means your first complete day is still ahead. It does not make those first hours less meaningful. If you start a new streak, update the date whenever you are ready. Earlier effort and experience do not disappear because a counter changes.
The counter has two perspectives: elapsed days and calendar anniversaries. Complete days each contain 24 hours. Calendar months follow actual month lengths, and calendar years include leap days where appropriate. The smaller year and month figures form a calendar breakdown rather than additional amounts to add to total days.
A start at the end of a long month uses the final day when a later anniversary month is shorter. January 31 therefore reaches its February anniversary on February’s last day. This gives you a usable calendar date instead of silently moving the anniversary into March.
Local time matters. Daylight-saving transitions can make the time between two local midnights shorter or longer than 24 hours. Travel and device time-zone changes can also affect the way a local starting date is interpreted. If your group follows a calendar-based convention, its count may differ from a complete-24-hour counter near these boundaries.
People sometimes search for an NA sobriety calculator or an AA sobriety calculator when they want help counting a date. This independent tool can do that arithmetic, but it does not represent either fellowship. Local groups and individuals may use different conventions. Ask your group or trusted support person if you want your count to follow a specific tradition.
No fellowship membership is needed to use this page. Your commitment may be personal, shared with a small circle, or connected to a group. A number on a screen does not decide whether your experience belongs.
Common moments to recognize include a day, a week, 30 days, 60 days, 90 days and yearly anniversaries. You can also choose dates with personal meaning. A quiet reflection or a note to yourself can be as valid as a celebration with others. There is no requirement to feel a particular way on an anniversary.
Visit the sobriety milestones guide for ideas about marking time. On the main calculator, upcoming milestone cards show dates and days remaining from your selected starting point.
The browser remembers your selected date locally when storage is available. It does not send that date to us. Clearing site storage removes it. A shared link includes the chosen date and time in its URL, so only send it when you are comfortable sharing those details.
Download a progress card if you want a private reminder, or keep your count entirely to yourself. For daily journaling and check-ins, the Android companion app provides additional tools. You can also contact us about the calculator. This is a wellbeing tool, not medical advice.
Enter your chosen starting date and optional time. The calculator counts complete 24-hour periods and updates every second.
Your date is stored only in this browser when storage is available. It is not sent to us. Copied links include the date and time.
Yes. Change your date whenever you need to. A new starting point does not erase what you have learned.
Formula: full days = floor((current time − start time) ÷ 86,400,000 milliseconds). Calendar months and years use anniversaries, rather than fixed day counts.
Worked example: 47 complete days = 6 weeks and 5 days. At 10 currency units per day, estimated savings are 47 × 10 = 470.
